I am so making these....

I have a few pillows in my living room that need a refresh. The insides are good, but the fabric has seen it's share of mishaps and more so in recent history...living with a 1+ year old and all. So, I think I will make some of these and make them nice and new. WHAT AN EASY TUTORIAL! Have fun!

Tutorial: Easy Envelope Pillow Covers

project courtesy of tinydecorblog.com

Covering a pillow doesn’t get any easier than this. No zippers or buttons to mess with. You don’t even have to pin this. In about 15-20 minutes you will have a beautiful custom made pillow cover.

Supplies:

  • Pillow insert ( I used a bamboo fiber insert)
  • Fabric (see step 1 for size)
  • Thread

Step-by-step:

  1. Cut a piece of fabric the height of your pillow insert plus 1 inch and twice the width of your pillow plus 6 inches. (I used a 12 x 16 inch pillow insert, so I cut my fabric 13 x 38 inches)
  2. On both short ends of fabric fold over and press 1/4 inch. Fold over another 1/4 inch and press again.
  3. Sew hem along folded edge on both short ends.
  4. Lay fabric right side up on work surface. Fold short ends in toward middle until cover is width of pillow. The fabric will overlap about 2.5 inches in the middle.
  5. Sew two long edges with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. (I prefer to serge these seams in my pillows to finish the seam, but it is not required.)
  6. Flip pillow cover right side out through the envelope closure. Press. Stuff with pillow insert through envelope enclosure.

Time for an update....since I have been AWOL

GOOD MORNING CAMPERS!

I have been so busy with life that I have neglected the blog. Sorry about that, but you know how it goes. I am officially 31 weeks pregnant and have about 9 weeks until baby number 2 makes his or her grand debut. I am not ready. But....all I really need is the bassinet and some diapers right? The rest will fall into place over the first 6 weeks of life. Or at least that is what I am going to tell myself.

Dan is doing well at work, busy as ever.

Maggie is trying to start running, but then she goes to fast and fear spreads across her face. It's pretty funny to see her throw her arms back and lean forward and go full tilt and then PANIC...how to stop. She is also really blossoming in her language skills. She keeps trying out words as she hears them. So...watch your language! Who knows what word she'll try next.

I have a great embroidery machine and have made some really cute baby shower gifts. I will post pictures as soon as the battery in the camera recharges. I have another shower this weekend....I think I will create something super cute for Ann.

My brother in law is getting married, Dan's cousin is getting married, and Dan's oldest brother just announced that a 3rd kiddo is on the way, Dan's cousin Jen just welcomed Mack at the end of January and Dan's cousin Kate is expecting her first at the end of March. This family has a lot going on this summer!!!

Maggie is currently eating breakfast and watching Curious George. Is it bad that I sometimes let my kid watch tv so I can get something done? Even something as superfluous as blogging? whatev....

OK...today I have to get some things done before I take my nap around noon. I love having the excuse for a daily nap....maybe I will just stay pregnant forever........

Yes....I am fine....

Well, as of Sunday I am 28 weeks along in this pregnancy. On Monday, my 31st birthday, I just didn't feel quite right. I had this weird thing happen when I was preggo with Maggie and it happened again. It all starts with my vision going blurry, followed by numbness in my left fingers that slowly travels up my left hand, to the arm, and eventually lands in my face. Then the vision will come back and the feeling will come back. Then the WHOPPER of all headaches will set in. I was also really weak and light headed and had a hard time catching my breath. I just decided to take it easy and see how the day went.

I had a my regular OB appointment on Tuesday morning. While telling my doc about my symptoms, she said "I am probably being a little cautious, but I want you to go over to Riverside [hospital] and have some additional tests done." WHAT?!?!?! I was expecting her to say that it was nothing to worry about, take it easy, drink lots of fluids. So off to Riverside we went.

I was checked in at about 9:15 am. The hooked me up to all kinds of monitors, ran an EKG, and had me hang out for about 5 hours. I had another episode of the numbness and blurry vision. The watched all my tests while it was going on and determined.......... I was having MIGRAINES! So, there is nothing wrong with the baby. My heart is just fine. I just have a penchant for migraine headaches with pregnancy. I was sent home and told to take a nap.

My faithful friend Bobbi Jo was over and took care of the Magpie while I took a 3 hour nap.

Today I feel much better. Thankfully. No headache. No shortness of breath. No excessive fatigue. Let's keep up the good work.....shall we?

TA DAH!

Well, I did it. I convinced Dan to buy the machine. I split the cost with my business and I gave up some presents for Valentine's day and my anniversary. But, believe me...IT WAS WORTH IT!!! Here are pictures of my first project, especially for the princess.

I also finally got a video of her dancing moves. She loves Jack's Big Music Show on Noggin and really busts it out when he's on TV...here ya go!
