  • the computer got sick (with a rogue program called "Antivirus XP 2008")
  • I spent 3+ hours on the phone with my "on call tech support" (Thanks a BUNCH DK!!)
  • I made a nursing cover for B while the proper antivirus software did its full scan (2 hours 9 minutes 23 seconds)(more or less) and then reported nada...ZIP...ZiLcH
  • I left to go walking with some other moms because I was so stinking frustrated I thought I might do something drastic
  • Came back...computer had not miraculously resurrected itself
  • Did full system restore that wipes the hard drive...lost TONS of stuff
  • boo hoo hoo hoo :(
  • Computer is working again, however...I have to start all over. Lots of updating...lots of downloading....lots and lots of lost time.....

Infants Strangled to Death in Simplicity Bassinets: CPSC Urges Consumers To Stop Using Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 Convertible “Close-Sleeper” Models

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging parents and caregivers to stop using convertible “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinets manufactured by Simplicity Inc., of Reading, Pa. CPSC has learned that on August 21, 2008, a 5-month-old girl from Shawnee, Kan. was strangled to death when she became entrapped between the bassinet’s metal bars. This is the second strangulation death CPSC has learned of in the co-sleeper bassinets. On September 29, 2007, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo. became entrapped in the metal bars of the bassinet and died.

CPSC is issuing this safety alert because SFCA Inc., the company which purchased all of Simplicity Inc.’s assets at public auction in April 2008, has refused to cooperate with the government and recall the products. SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity Inc.

The Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets contain metal bars spaced farther apart than 2 3/8 inches, which is the maximum distance allowed under the federal crib safety standard. The metal bars are covered by an adjustable fabric flap which is attached by velcro. The fabric is folded down when the bassinet is converted into a bed-side co-sleeping position. If the velcro is not properly re-secured when the flap is adjusted, an infant can slip through the opening and become entrapped in the metal bars and suffocate. This warning does not cover bassinets produced in recent months that have fabric permanently attached over the lower bar.

Due to the serious hazard these bassinets pose to babies, CPSC urges all consumers to share this safety warning with day care centers, consignment stores, family and friends to ensure that no child is placed to sleep in a Simplicity convertible bassinet covered by this warning.

The Commission voted, using its new authorities in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, to release this warning upon making a finding that the health and safety of the public require immediate notice.

The CPSC is committed to protecting consumers and families from products that pose a fire, electrical, chemical, or mechanical hazard. My New Author Infatuation

If you are into chick lit, especially that centered on mommyhood, then you NEED to read Jennifer Weiner's books, any of them! I am currently about to finish "Good in Bed" and I am to the point where I just can't put it down. I have also read "In Her Shoes" (which was much better than the movie), and "Little Earthquakes". Next on my list is "Certain Girls". Head to the library today to pick one up. Trust me you will laugh, cry, and be glad you read it!!!

Also, she has a great blog. I am going to add it to my blog roll!

Finally...a yard I can be proud of!

Dan and I spent most of the weekend cleaning out our completely overgrown yard, both front and back. I really need to remember to take "before" pictures, but here are the "after" pictures:

The backyard: Our little pond, the old bench and chair, and our crabapple trees.

The backyard: the giant Hosta, Maggie's future play area, a giant pile of brush taken from one of the crabapple trees.

The front yard: The two cleared out flower beds.

The front yard: a closeup of the flower bed on the left. The beds feature Spirea and Asiatic Lilies.

The front yard: a closeup of my new Asiatic Lilies.

The front yard: to the left of the front porch. Featuring my transplanted Lavender (was in the front right flower bed) and the Holly and the base of the Magnolia tree.

I think it all turned out well! Now.....how long before I kill it all???

Your Suggestions Please!

I need a new alliterative or rhyming name for the little soft blankets I am making. I don't want to infringe on the @aggies brand and their copyright. I have also found lots of other "loopy lovey" items out there. So, I need something new and creative. Do you have any thoughts???

holy cow

We went to the KidZone today at COSI

Let me just say...I was holding back the tears.

She has been pulling up and cruising (not much though) down the furniture. I can hold her hands and she will take some steps. But, with this she didn't need me. I got to sit back and watch the magic. I can honestly say, that these are some of her fist steps, caught on camera.

You really only need to watch the first 30 seconds...

Busy as a Bee....1...2....3

So what a day I am having! I have done nothing productive...well not nothing, but not much, around the house today. I did the basic morning chores, but when Maggie went down for her nap, I hit the sewing machine. Here's what I got accomplished in about 2 hours:

Kelly's Sling (I will drop it in the mail tomorrow Kel!)
Some burp cloths for an expecting friend:
And Claire's (Maggie's playmate) new Blocks bag: (I fell in love with this print! So Fun!)
NOW.....this afternoon I would like to get started on Maggie's first birthday outfit. I have the pattern and the fabric, it's just a matter of getting started.
But first I need to decide tonight's dinner menu.....Chicken Enchiladas? Leftovers? Take Out?

uphill climb...

I should be cleaning the kitchen...

I really want to feel excited about my blog, but I have so much to do to it right now. I found the CUTEST templates to use, but if I upload a new template I lose a TON of stuff. But, with all my messing around yesterday I screwed up the current template to where it looks UgLy! SO...I guess I am at that...what do I have to lose point... I will most likely lose my hit counter and I don't know how to save that, but everything else I can slowly put into place again. I am estimating I have about 10 good hours of messing around before I get it set. There are new pictures, a shopping cart, new products, and more. I have been teasing about it for so long, people are going to give up checking back. To tide you over, I would like to offer you a slide show of last weekends hoorahs!

Thanks MaPaStamm for letting us hang at your place while you were out of town! We had a blast!!

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

oops.

I attempted to change my template...as you can see...everything is currently WONKY!! If anyone has any tips on changing templates without screwing up everything or losing my gadgets and widgets please do share!

ARGH!

So Exciting!

I love it when people comment on my blog entry when I had no idea that they were reading...HI AUNT JOAN! I also love when people I don't know send me emails saying that a friend or a coworker sent them to my site. I love that I can reach people that I don't know.

But...I would like to let you all know that there are new things coming soon...
  • BURP CLOTHS
  • NURSING COVERS
  • KNIT BOOTIES
  • BIBS

I plan to spend some time in the next week getting things listed and getting the site updated. I look forward to all the new emails and comments!!!

AHHHH....sewing....it just feels right.....

The sewing machine has been unearthed as well as supplies. I whipped up a nursing cover for Hollie P. in Texas today and I hope she will be pleased. She won the cover from a contest at WholesomeBabyFood.com . CONGRATS to Hollie and her Munchkin. Here is Hollie's winning recipe in the "OH, NO....NOT MEAT" contest:
-------------

Chicken Veggie & Fruit by Hollie

Chicken, Boneless, Skinless & Cut into bite-sized pieces, White or dark - your choice but I use 1 chicken breast half
Parsley Tarragon Oregano
Garlic - 1 Clove
Chicken Stock, 1 Can
Carrot Peeled & Diced, 1 -
Small Apple, Peeled, Cored & Diced, 1
Plums, Peeled, Cored & Diced,

Gather all your ingredients and get the burner warmed up. Place the chicken in a frying pan with a little EVOO and sautee' until chicken turns white and is cooked throughout about 3-5 minutes.

Using a garlic press add the garlic to the chicken. If you don't have a garlic press you can chop it into small bits. While chicken is cooking, place your carrot, apple & plum pieces in another pan (so not to cross contaminate) with enough chicken stock to 1/2-way cover the veggie & fruits. On med-low heat lightly boil/simmer the mixture.

Take the parsley, tarragon & oregano and sprinkle over the veggie/fruits mixture one time each. When the carrot & fruit is soft add the chicken and simmer for about 3 minutes. Transfer to your choice of blending appliance and puree away.

Since the puree is mostly fruit and not chicken it freezes nicely and my munchkin L-O-V-E, loves it! Great 1 bowl dinner idea.

Hollie's little one is 10 moths old.

Only a few moments...

I only have a couple of minutes while the floors dry, but here's the news:

  • Maggie and I are both sick with colds. We are through the worst of it, but getting better seems slower than I would like. Maggie hates tissues and likes to leave the "bats in her cave" as we call those little boogers.
  • The house is coming together...a box a day keeps the insanity away...or something like that.
  • Dan is ever busy with work. We are going to the lake with the Greisemers, and the Islers, so he will have some long days ahead to get ready.
  • MAGGIE ADDED A NEW WORD TO HER VOCABULARY.....DRUMROLL PLEASE.....
KITTY

Dan and I are so proud....we were really hoping for O-H-I-O, but kitty will do for now...

GO BUCKS!

Is 10am too early....

for a glass of wine?

I just gave the keys to the new tenants at the duplex.

We have signed leases on all properties.

All of our crap is in one house. (mostly)

Maggie woke up sick with a runny nose, watery eyes, a sneeze and a cough. No fever, thankfully.

I need to get a nursing cover made and sent. Where did I see that sewing machine box?????
